A little history

The town began as "Crossroads," where two important trade roads met, and became Cross City when Dixie County was formed in 1921. Logging built the town: the Putnam Lumber Company ran a big sawmill and company town called Shamrock just outside it, and the 1927 Putnam Lodge still stands.
